Streamlining compliance reviews by ~75% at a financial services firm

Product Designer (Enterprise UX & Governance)

About

A national financial services firm faced mounting challenges maintaining consistency and audit readiness across hundreds of technical Standards and Procedures. Manual review cycles were slow, error-prone, and difficult to track across departments. The Governance & Compliance office partnered with the enterprise design and development teams to modernize documentation workflows and build scalable systems for oversight.

I was brought in to re-envision how Standards were authored, reviewed, and approved and to help prototype an internal Power Apps tool that would automate key parts of this compliance process.

Challenge

The organization’s legacy review system required:

  • Dozens of manual steps per document.

  • 2 + hours of SME time per review cycle.

  • Limited visibility into document ownership, version history, and audit trail status.

Compliance risks were increasing as the number of Standards grew. The goal was to standardize governance across all technology domains while creating a foundation for AI-assisted document analysis in the future.

My Role

📄 Redesigning documentation templates and workflows to align 50 + Standards across 12 technology domains.

🛠 Partnering with data and dev teams to design and test an internal Power Apps compliance management tool.

🤝 Collaborating with enterprise architects and compliance leads to ensure accessibility, security, and audit-readiness.

Solution

Implementation

  • Reimagined key screens to increase user acceptance and accessibility.

  • Created user flows showing how AI would analyze document content, flag misalignments, and suggest updates.

  • Designed proof-of-concept screens for a dashboard that surfaces compliance status in real time.

  • Mapped the existing 10-step review process end-to-end and conducted stakeholder interviews across Governance, Engineering, and Operations.

  • Key finding: over 80% of SME time was spent manually tracking changes and version alignment.

  • Designed a tool that serves as an interim system to standardize and validate documentation data before integration into the enterprise’s future AI/automation platform.

  • Created structured workflows, form logic, and dashboard layouts that made document readiness, ownership, and alignment visible in real time.

  • Applied the organization’s enterprise design system to ensure consistency, accessibility, and scalability across Power Apps interfaces.

  • Worked directly with Power Apps developers to translate design specifications into functional screens and forms.

  • Validated component behavior, permissions, and field logic to align with governance requirements.

  • Delivered annotated prototypes and supporting documentation to ensure smooth implementation and accurate data capture for downstream automation efforts.
